The article proposes that the lotus motif is displayed within a vast visual space, and that Zoroastrianism, Buddhism,, Judaism, Manichaeism, and Islam all regard the lotus as a sacred flower. It then employs iconographic theory and methods to analyze the artistic of the lotus in the Kizil caves from three aspects: the symbol of a pure land, the symbol of noble identity, and a reflection on ancestral.
